More Sewing

Today I finished 3 pair of oven mits as xmas gifts for my 3 daughters. I chose an Australian print because it is a little bit chrismassy and being dark coloured they won`t show the dirt so easily. I have lined them with "insul Bright" and wool wadding to give extra protection. Each year I try to give them something I have made to try and encourage them to take up sewing, so far it hasn`t worked I think they enjoy the anticipation of what mum will come up with each year. Now only a little bag and 2 place mats to finish, but first some lunch and a much needed cuppa.

Xmas sewing

Here are some of my Santa Heads and below the dolls for my youngest GDs.
I have been busy sewing Xmas gifts. The little Xmas heads are destined for GDs kindy teachers as well as some for the rellies, they are so cute and easy to make. The pattern comes from
freebies for crafters set up by Sew Prim Khris and you get allsorts of free patterns, so check it out.
The little dolls are just perfect for little hands so each of my three youngest GDs will get one. They are 18 month old twins and their 1 yo cousin. I enjoyed making them but they are a little bit tricky to sew in some places and mine are a little bit wonky but I am sure they will still be much loved.
I still have to finish two more placemats and do a surprise for each of my 3 daughters, I will be sewing in my sleep I think to get it all done. But then I can settle back with a drink ( lemonade of course) and enjoy the rest of the year.

A Bit Of Cooking

Today I decided it was time to do a bit of cooking for Xmas. I only have to make the fruit mince pies, cake and puddings already taken care of. My sister is coming to lunch tomorrow to celebrate Xmas with two of my grand daughters. A quiche must be made today so I decided on a roast pumpkin and semi dried tomato one as it is one of my favourites. DH saw and said could we have one for dinner, so now I make two. The fruit mince pies were done quickly and the left over fruit was made into a big pie for DH, one of his favourite desserts. All baked before 5 o clock and the first quiche eaten by 6 o clock because Dh couldn`t wait any longer, it was delicious. Tomorrow I will make some chocolates, craisins and cashew nuts covered in thick dark chocolate, and then some Xmas themed choccies for the kids. Wednesday it will be biscuit making day, lots of choc, plain and cinnamon biscuits to be made and they don`t last long, but they are a tradition that was started by my dear Mum many years ago.

Farm Visit and more table mats

We made a trip to the farm for my grand daughter`s first birthday and sorry so busy partying I forgot to take photos so now have to wait for Xmas. We took our little van to sleep in and have left it on the farm as we will be going back to celebrate Xmas with the family. Not long after we arrived and set up our "room" it started to rain and rain and rain. Our van became an island surrounded by water and SIL got us a cattle grid so we could get to bed. Fortunately next morning it had been absorbed into the ground and we were once again part of the mainland. It continued to rain on and off for the whole time we were there but this added to the birthday celebrations as the rain was very welcome even if it did play havoc with the reaping of the crops. We returned home very tired as we had celebrated for 3 days and we will return in time for Xmas and it will be a happy time to spend time with the family.

These are two more table mats I have made using the free pattern from Among The Gum Trees blog. I searched through my books for Xmas patterns and adapted them to use because I wanted every placemat to be different, I still have a few more to finish along with my other sewing and Xmas parties to attend.

Santas and a cushion

This is my cushion and it was an easy pattern tofollow and turned out quite well.

Here are my Trio of Santas and the are going to look great on my table for Xmas.

I couldn`t resist the urge to make up my Santa Trio. As it has been so hot here I spent the weekend in my airconditioned sewing room and went crazy and finished them in no time. Then on Monday the next free pattern from Among the Gum Trees designers was posted and I just had to make Dawn Hay`s cushion. I decided to not go with Xmas fabrics as I wanted to have it on display all year round, I might add that I went way out in the colour selection as I had received some fat 1/8s in a swap from the HANDEMADE site forum. I now have to make more cushions for gifts as my DD wanted to take mine home with her. I told her she had to wait and I will do a cushion for her to match her bedroom.

Craft and quilt fair

These are the fat q`s I bought.

This is the patterns and bag handles I bought.

Went with some friends to the Craft and Quilt fair on Thursday and had a wonderful day, lots to see and lots to buy. If you had time there were workshops you could attend and take home what you had made, we couldn`t fit them in to our shopping schedule. We all bought heaps until we ran out of cash and were happy with our purchases. The quilt display was awesome, there are some very talented quilters out there. Sorry can`t show you any pictures as it against copyright or some thing. The management asked us to leave at 5 o clock. How rude was that? I think they wanted to go home for a sleep. We met up with some other ladies from the forum for lunch and a show and tell of what we had bought in the morning. Finally got home at about 6.30 after having to wait in peak hour traffic but the day was great and we went home tired but happy.

I have just returned home from a good morning with a lovely bunch of ladies we did a lot of laughing, talking, coffee drinking, eating yummy slice and a little bit of sewing as well. We try to solve the problems of the world (although we haven`t got very far yet). We show what we have been working on or have finished in the previous week and help each other if we have problems with our sewing. We are good at hearing what we say to each other and give advice where we can on sewing or a more personal nature. It`s a fun, stress free outing with others that share the same passions without judgement or criticism. Tuesday is a day I always look forward to because I know it is going to be a good day. This is the placemat I have finished this week, It is a free pattern from the designers from Among the Gum Trees.

Baby Quilt

My DH workmate has just welcomed a new baby into their home. This is the I-Spy quilt I have made to celebrate his birth.

My neighbour needed a new peg bag, she gave me her old one and asked if I could sew one the same. Here is the result and i liked so I made another one for myself.

Granddaughters Birthday

My GD turned three on Monday, she received the doll from an aunty and DH and I gave her the stroller. The waether got hotter and she said she was hot in her jeans so I made her a birthday skirt and she loved it.

A little gift

I wanted to share the picture of the little bag I have just finished. It is from the Rivendale collection minus the embroidery and just a little bigger. It is a pattern that I often use when a bag is needed because it is fast and easy to sew.

My latest work

I have just finished an afternoon tea cloth that had been sitting in my UFO box for some time. It is "Tea with Roses" from the Patchwork Apple. It was a tad small so I added another border and it is now just right.

My 4YO GD won a competition to meet the faries and attend their concert as wellas some DVDs and Cds. Here is a photo of my daughter Megan holding Brooke(nearly 3yo) and Jade (4yo)gazing awestruck at the faries. The concert was great and I am glad Jade invited me to go with them

My Stitchery from Among the Gum Trees

Hi everyone, I have had a good week of stitching and sewing. I have completed the free stitchery from Among the Gum Trees site and I must thank Judith, one of the nine designers for the lovely bag, I plan on making more and filling them with soap or choccies as Xmas gifts. I have also nearly finished an afternoon tea cloth and I will show you when it is finished. I have to make a baby quilt this week for one of DH workmates who has just become a dad to a little boy. I hope i can add the photo or i will have to visit Dawn for another lesson.

cheers for now Judy

Hi everyone, DH and I have just returned from 4 days of R&R at Waikerie in the SA riverland. Stayed in the local caravan park and was even allowed to take my dog. Lots of long walks and plenty of just lazing around under the gum trees. Found the chocolate shop (Havenhand) in the town and went in for a look. Lots of yummy choccies and the most devine hot chocolate I have ever drunk. Had to keep going back each day for a refill and to help the local economy. Had a wonderful lunch at the local pub and so much food on the plate I couldn`t eat it all. The weather was great and it only started to rain when we were driving home. Did a lot of hand stitching and was very pleased with the results, will show you when they are finished. cheers Judy

Still getting the hang of moving around a blog but it`s fun. Thanks Tozz for being my first follower, it was a buzz to see you there. I am busy visiting all the designers from among the Gum Trees and it takes me ages to find the right place to join in for the giveaways and the even longer to do the typing. I apologise to Jenny of Elefantz for visiting her twice and to any others I might have done this to also. When I have learnt to add a photo I will show myself and some of my work. Cheers Judy
