A QUILT AND A BAG

Delivered the quilts to Modbury Hospital rehab unit and the new owners were very happy to receive them. Needed to make one more as another patient was admitted. Also saw some burlap rolls at Spotty and liked the look of it and the result was a very nice shopping bag. Easy and quick to make so will be making some more with the grandkids to give to their mums for Christmas. Now off to start a new project or possibly finish a UFO, haven`t decided yet, so bye for now Jude

I liked doing this quilt it was an easy one to sew and used more of my left over fabric
.

Pleased with how the bag turned out, but might make the next one bigger to take shopping.

THE LAST THREE QUILTS

These are the last 3 quilts of a total of 22 that I have made for the rehab unit at Modbury Hospital. The first 2 I forgot to photograph so there is not a record of them. They are all made from leftover fabric in my stash and there are still a lot more quilts hiding in my cupboard just waiting to be made. I hope to deliver them on Thursday and then do some sewing for me. I am in a Christmas swap this year so will have to make a few things for my partner as well as buy some goodies. I also have a quilt, backpack and a bag to make from the patterns I received at the Lets Get Stitched retreat I attended in Brisbane in March, so must crack the whip now and get started. Well maybe tomorrow.

FOUR MORE QUILTS AND SOME JELLIES

It has been another busy week for me. I have made some quince jelly and some apple jelly and I like it on my toast for breakfast or with some cheese and crackers, very yummy. i had never made apple jelly before so I used the quince jelly recipe and it worked out quite well.
I have also finished four more quilts for the rehab section of Modbury hospital and will have to deliver them soon as my spare room is getting cluttered more than usual. Started cutting another quilt today but not feeling up to sewing as I have a bit of a cold that can go when it likes, thankyou very much.

 My quince and apple jellies.

This quilt I made up as I went and was please with how it turned out.

This one I also made up as I went.

This one is called Volume and is from the SCRAP REPUBLIC book by Emily Cier that i purchased from Spotty for just $5.00.

Another one that was done as I went along and it`s meant to be a little like a rainbow. I hope the new owners will like and enjoy them as much as I did making them. Just need to make some labels and they are ready to go.

Bye for now Jude

LOTS OF QUILTS

Hi all, been very busy making quilts for the rehabilitation unit at Modbury Hospital. The patients here love to receive a quilt when they are in the hospital and my friend dawn and I decided to try to donate one to all who are having a stay at the hospital after a stroke. So far we have given two ladies their quilts and they loved them, I have just finished 4 more and nearly finished another 2 quilts. I love to do  this for them but it gets a little expensive having to buy the wadding. I will continue to make them as long as I am able and hoping I can get some reasonable priced wadding some where. The finished quilts are at least 50 inches square and i have posted them below.

While I was sewing the binding on a quilt these two little birds landed on my clothes line. I have not seen them here before and I dont know what they are. If you do know please let me know.

This one is from the Block book by Missouri star.

This one i just made up and is a quilt as you go.

Another I just started to sew and i like the effect of this one. The one below is just a simple 9 patch.

A FINISHED UFO

I started this quilt 6 years ago with a block swap from a forum I was in at the time. I made blocks for other forum members in the colour of their choice and they did one for me in my selected colours. Some of the blocks were not what I had wanted so I altered them to suit and made others to get the size of the quilt I wanted. The blocks sat around for ages and then I put them together and it went back in the cupboard. My sister asked if I had a quilt she could buy for her MIL for Mothers Day and I thought of the quilt UFO. She liked it and said her MIL would love it so it was quilted and bound in the same day. Now onto the next UFO, well maybe, I do have a lot I need to do.
Cheers Jude

SOME DOLL`S CLOTHES

I have recently come home from a week visiting with my daughter, Leonie and her family. We went to the Keith playgroup on Tuesday and I noticed the dolls were nude, so decided to make some clothes for them. Hope they like them.

Shorts and top for the boy doll. Below some of the nappies to share for both dolls.

LITTLE BUNNIES

I recently went to Brisbane for a stitching weekend and I made a gift for my roomies. They were very happy with what I had made and now I have requests for more. They are from the TILDA book of rabbits and are quite easy and quick to make. I did not enlarge them to the full size as stated in the pattern as I prefer smaller cuter rabbits. Will show you the projects from the weekend when I have made them. Bye for now Jude.

JADES NEW QUILT

Hi all, my camera broke down so off to buy a new one. Took great photos and then couldn`t upload them to my computer. My friend came over for dinner and we formated the card ( now who knew how to do that, well not me). Next tried to get the photos again, no luck. Next went back to the shop I had purchased it from and had to buy a cord to transfer them to the computer or take out the card thingy and put that into the computer, sounds too complicated for me so bought the cord and hey presto I can now do it. Three cheers here please.  I can now show you the quilts I have made . My GD Jade requested a new lap quilt as hers was looking a little worse for wear. I chose  the pattern "Miss Daisy" by Monica Poole that I had bought at the Craft Fair as it was bright and colourful. Made two  as the first  was to see if I could do it as it was a quilt as you go, worked out fine so then made Jades. Now to see which one she prefers.

Jades quilt as she told me her favourite colour is now blue.

The first sample quilt.  This will go into the gifting box in case I forget someones special day. Below are the backings, I especially like the owl fabrics. Bye for now Jude.

MORE TOMATOES and some CUCUMBERS

More tomatoes have ripened and so have the cucumbers so more  cooking to make bread and butter cucumbers for winter eating and more tomato pickles. Next lot of tomatoes will go into more soup to freeze for winter. It has been a good year for the garden this year thankfully as last year was a disaster. Also we have been picking lots of pencil eggplants, if that is the correct  name and I have been adding them to casseroles and last night marinated some in garlic, olive oil and rock salt and then roasted them. Quite tasty but I prefer them in casseroles as the taste is pretty bland. Also not my  favourite veggie.

The bread and butter cucumbers are tasty in a cold lamb sandwich, yummy.

T
The tomato pickles, DH likes these and so does my son in law and another batch cooking now so there will be some to share.

Bye for now as I am off to finish my Grandaughter`s quilt after lunch.

Below is the first batch of tomato sauce and ran out of bottles, so off soon to get some more. when I get back will be cooking my first batch of tomato chutney and then more sauce for the daughters.

BAG ANYONE?

My black and white bag is for when I am travelling as I can fit all I need for the journey.

This is my chocolate ripple bag and I just love it. The pattern is titled Raspberry Ripple and is from Melly and Me. this is the first bag I have made in a long time but was a little too small when travelling to put all that I needed for the trip so I made the black and white bag above. Both turned out better than I hoped and were quite easy to make. I should have put the photos the other way round but i forgot which goes on first, so you see them in reverse  from how I sewed them.

This bag is "Pack Up Your Troubles" from Designs by Joy Coey from Joypatch  and I made it to take all those extra bits and pieces when I travel by plane. It can hold a great amount and is legal size for cabin luggage.  It is the first time I have used bag weight wadding and was very easy to manage and sew.

SOME SEWING TO SHARE

Hi every one, I have been very busy stitching and sewing lately and have a couple of things to show you, more are still works in progress.

My daughter,Megan is in the SES in NSW and needed costumes to fit Barbie dolls for an exhibition they are having shortly. She sent an old shirt and these 2 dollies clothes are the result. They are a bit big but will have to do.

My eldest granddaughter was over for the holidays and wanted to make a cushion. She picked a pieced butterfly to make and did quite well, i had to put the zip in as that was too hard for her to do.

My sister Barbara asked me to make her a horse quilt. I made a matching pillow for her as well. It took me a little time to find a horse that looked like hers and below is the finished quilt.
Cheers for now Jude.

BACK ON MY BLOG

Hi everyone, it`s been a while since I have blogged as I have been having trouble with my account but I hope it has been resolved now.
Recently I was in Melbourne with 50 other beautiful quilters and had a fabulous time laughing, drinking (non alcoholic of course) lots of chatting, a great bus tour of quilt shops and even managed a few stitches in a new project. I will share when its done. I also received some beautiful new patterns and will gradually get them done and show you the results. I have finished my first one by Designs By Fee and it is a great Retreat organiser for everything you need for quilting on the go. Next I hope to do Dawns Preston bag, so watch this space.

This is the front of The Everyday Retreat Bag and it was a quick and easy pattern to follow.

Here is the inside with all I need stored inside. and below are the 2 pin cushions made from the patterns that Fee gave us at Let`s Get Stitched. I also made a cover for my rotary cutter and a scissor scabbard from the left over fabric.

Bye for now Jude.

MY GRANDDAUGHTERS QUILTS

This is Brooke showing off her first quilt. She has made it for her dollies and was very happy when it was finished. Brookis 7 years old.

Here is Jade with her first big quilt, last year she made her first dollies quilt. Jade is 8 1/2 years old. Jades quilt is a row by row, quilt as you go quilt as I thought she would find it easy to sew. The binding is sewed on the machine as Jade still finds hand sewing hard to do. She added a little blue applique bird to give it a bit of character and has called her quilt Birdie Rails as the fabric used was called Birdie by MODA.
Bye for now and I will try to blog more often this year, Jude

CHRISTMAS SEWING

Hayley and Chloe sewing their angels. Chloe was a bit concerned when the thread almost came out of the needle.

Chloe, Brooke and Hayley showing off their angels.

A close up of the angels.

Hayley and Chloe hard at work sewing the hearts to the angels dress.
I haven`t been blogging much lately and plan to do more often in the new year.
Three of my grand daughters were visiting at the same time and we decided to do some sewing.
we looked through some books and decided to make some angels, it was a lot of fun and many rethreading of needles when the little arms pulled it to far but worth it in the end when they all went home with a new angel for the Christmas tree.

CUTE LITTLE BAGS AND BALLET DANCERS

I just loved making these little bags and have plans to make more. The two together were gifts for Chloe and Hayley,{my twin granddaughters} as a gift after we watched them dance at their ballet concert. The little kids were precious, they were just watching each other and all out of step but we loved it anyway. The other bag is my newest sewing hold all for when I go to craft. I have another to make using teddy bear fabric for my next door neighbours daughters birthday and as the pattern is so good I will probably be making more.

My bag and it is also fully lined and has a needle case to go with it and I will show you that later.

The twins bags.

Here they are all dressed for the ballet concert.

THE TWINS BIRTHDAY GIFTS

Here I am with my beautiful granddaughters Hayley on the left and Chloe on the right(I think). They are now 5 years old and due to start school next term. DH and I are going to Victor harbor for their ballet concert and I will be staying on for the kindy graduation.

This is one of the dolly carry cots I have made for  their birthday gift and a Barbie doll as well. They have little dolls and toy bunnies and bears just waiting to sleep in these cots and they were quite easy to make.

This is the second dolly bed and I know the girls are going to love them. I am sure they will also be used to carry baby bunny and guinea pig around in if we let them. Lucky they are washable.

These cute bags are for the girls after we have been to their concert. I saw the ballet fabric and had to buy it and now it has come in very useful. I have put a hair brush, lip gloss and nail polish in the bags and the girls are going to be excited when they get them. Bye for now as I have to put the tea on the table as DH is complaining he is hungry, poor dear. Jude
